A Happy Halloween

Many Steiner inspired parents are torn when it comes to celebrating Halloween. For many children the modern day themes are much too dark and scary for their little hearts! On the flip side, with all the hype, it is hard to avoid and the fear of our children missing out on the fun sets in.

My children were never fans of a traditional Halloween. We carved happy pumpkins, created happy window displays, and sang songs that were jolly and fun. Neither child enjoyed trick or treating beyond the houses where we knew the families and spent most of the evening handing out candy to the children who came to visit our house. At thirteen and fifteen years old now, I am happy to report that neither feel they missed or were left out of the hullaballoo! In fact, they both still enjoy decorating (albeit it has taken a darker turn in some areas of the yard) and both gather with their friends at our house for special treats and to hand out candy to the children.

Below, I’ve shared some of our favourite verses and collage of phots from some of our past Halloweens.

Jack o’Lantern, Jack o’Lantern, such a pretty sight!
As you sit there in the window, looking out at night.
First you were a yellow pumpkin, growing on a vine.
Now you are a Jack o’Lantern, see your candle shine!

Five little pumpkins, sitting on a gate.
The first one said “Oh my, it’s getting late.”
The second one said “There are witches in the air”
The third one said “But we don’t care!
The fourth one said “Let’s run and run and run”
The fifth one said “I’m ready for some fun!”
WOOOOOOOO went the wind and
OUT went the light
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

I hope you have found something here to help you create a gentle Happy Halloween!

Blessings,

Marina
