Colour Dynamics Book Review Adventure

Are you ready to go on an adventure with me? If so, I’m excited to have you here with me! *This collection of posts is an expanded versions of my Instagram series. with the same name. All posts have been backdated and edited for the blog.*

I’ve seen the book Colour Dynamics by Angela Lord everywhere lately. On all the boards, groups and Instagram pages. Mostly it is new homeschoolers asking if it is *the* book to buy to support them through homeschooling their children. I’ve seen glowing reviews and lukewarm reviews. My curiosity finally got the better of me so I purchased it from our local Waldorf store, The Paper Pipit I’ve spent the better part of an hour slowly looking through its pages as my daughter takes her riding lesson and I’m so intrigued by its content.

The adventure, you ask? Well, after my initial flip through, I’ve decided that I’m going to make my way through this book and all its exercises while sharing the experience with you all. I think one of the questions I’m most often asked as a mentor to homeschooling families surround painting, both how to bring it to the children and how to develop our own abilities as adults and teachers.

A disclaimer: I’m a total novice when it comes to guided experiences like this. . I’ve done some guided water colour painting with my mentor (like, less than ten), and used other books on the topic of painting in Waldorf schools when I needed inspiration. And I’ve lead my children through their painting experiences linked to main lesson. I can confidently say my childrens’ openness to painting discovery has officially put their skill beyond my own! I still view myself as very much a beginner, especially when you start to throw in words like colour theory and dynamics 😳😬🤪. So what I end up sharing in this review will be from that perspective. The perspective of someone who hasn’t done this before. If you have a deeper experience with painting, this probably won’t be the adventure for you 😉

So, if you are as curious about this book as I am, I hope that you will follow along! I’ll be posting every “Watercolour Wednesday” (which I totally stole from Annie @thechildisthecurriculum because I love alliteration 🤣) and will include photos of my work as well as thoughts on the exercises and HOPEFULLY this will help other novices discover if this is the book for them.

Warmly,
Marina
