False Starts

We are on our fourth day of the first day of back to home school. Did you catch that? LOL

Someone out there, please tell me we aren’t the only family off to a rough start!

Things just haven’t gone as planned and while we followed as close a rhythm as we could, Dr’s appointments, the sale and purchase of property resulting in endless phone calls and emails that need to be dealt with as closing dates are creeping up, it seemed like whenever we got started, something would need to be tended to.

Our last Dr’s appointment was early this morning so we headed home, ate breakfast and got to the table before 10:30am, which is a huge improvement compared to the last two first days of school for 2018, ha ha. Our aim was to work on maths review this week, but really what I should have done is planned around these appointments and interruptions instead of trying to fit them around our school work. No one could focus, the space was not held, and then resulting complaining and flopping around on the table and chairs really didn’t make for ideal conditions.

So I’m planning for tomorrow to be filled with outdoor time, gently holding the rhythm indoors with read alouds, games and baking and we shall move the first day of school to next week. Sometimes I forget the limits of my capacity to multitask and the crash down to reality is just what I need to get a grip on what is actually needed.

This week hasn’t been exactly stellar, but I’ve rolled with the punches to our rhythm and held in my heart that tomorrow is another day. A fresh start. An opportunity to leave the crazy of one day behind and envision that the next will be calmer. And while in the midst of a day that has turned upside down, I remember to look for the enjoyment of these forks in the road, and to find the benefit of this detour.

One of my favourite quotes from Anne of Green Gables is “It’s been my experience that you can nearly always enjoy things if you make up your mind firmly that you will.”.

I hope your week back was smoother than ours was!

Until next time,
Marina
