This may not look like anything more than a mess of swords, shields and bows, but it is so much more. It is literally hours of play outdoors.
Imaginative play.
Deep rooted soul food.
Uninterrupted exploration and world creation.
My eldest had some friends and cousins over today, all within a year or two of his own eleven (with the addition of my own youngest and my sister’s youngest), and they were out there for hours “role playing”, as they call it.
Treasure hunters fighting all sorts of creatures.
Knights of a kingdom on a quest to save the villagers, needing to use survival skills to overnight in the woods.
Hobbits surviving and thriving on an adventure.
I love that my son can surround himself with children who will still deeply immerse themselves in play. Children who include little ones and make everyone feel a valuable part of the story. While they played I watched in awe as the story unfolded, and my heart was happy ❤
Until next time,
Marina
