Today I attended a workshop on child development and learning, the second in a series of four workshops lead by my mentor. I always leave feeling so inspired, and even though my background is in early childhood education, and I’ve attended this series before, I find the reminders so helpful in keeping my expectations grounded and my inner work rolling in the right direction.
Because, really, most of homeschooling isn’t about the “curriculum”. It is about knowing where our children are and what they need. It is about and doing the inner work to bring everything needed with love. ❤
One word that is repeated often when discussing inner work is STRIVE.
Striving to own our decisions, to stand in full freedom with the choices we make and call them our own.
To strive to be objective and loving and hold the children with reverence.
To strive to be the captain of our ships, because THAT is what children need.
Striving is not a crutch or excuse to continue to avoid the inner work that is necessary to bring to our children what is needed. To strive is to be actively working on growing ourselves as adults, to be worthy of imitation and to hold fully in our hearts the intentions we have for our family.
Homeschooling truly is about raising a family!
