Crocus, crocus, waken up! Catch a sunbeam in your cup. Hold it close, let it go. The sun will help it grow and grow. ~Traditional~
A little crocus popped up here,
A little crocus popped up there.
And before I knew,
Not one or two,
The crocuses were everywhere!
~ Alan Hirsch~
These are sweet little verses to welcome the crocuses and spring! You can use them with a wet-on-wet painting exercise where the crocuses appear by using the primary colours.
Here is the little story I told:
The sun shone down (using yellow, cover the page from the top to the bottom using horizontal strokes across the page)
The grass grew up (using blue, we covered the bottom third of the page from bottom to top using horizontal strokes across the page)
Deep down in the grass hid a surprise (using red paint a circle or blob)
It reached its arms down, down, down (pull some roots from the circle with the paint brush)
And the warmth of the sun called up above the grass (pull some of the green up in a straight line another third of the page up)
And it stretched its arms out in the warmth (pull some green to make two leaves on either side)
And then, as thanks for the warmth, a heart (using red, create a heart shape at the top)
