Simple Little Actions

My eldest has a stomach bug, and it looks like it is going to be a long night!

When the children were small, we all ended up with a stomach bug at the same time. Down like soldiers within hours of each other. It was horrible. My husband and I were literally lying on the floor of the livingroom with the children on the couch, and we all took turns napping and being sick, too exhausted to do anything by lie there.

To keep spirits up during those brutal three days, I strung Christmas lights in the room. Just a random strand I came across while frantically looking for carpet cleaner after the first child went down. They were pretty much the only lights we had on during the three days, and while it was such a small thing, it did bring a little bit of joy and magic to a not so fun situation.

Now, every time the children are sick we turn on a strand of lights, because “a little bit of Christmas magic makes everything feel a little less sick” – my eldest, ha ha. So the lights are on tonight as we try to find some magic within the sick.

It is a simple thing, but it carries us through the struggles.
